What educators are saying
Description
These animal adaptions science and writing activities support the Next Generation Science Standard* for structure and function. Learn about the external body parts that help the camel, giraffe, and penguin survive. That's right...3 animals are included. Learn about one animal whole group. Let a group work on the second animal. Students can work independently on the third. Talk about gradual release of responsibility! Supplement your science lessons with these.

These activities were inspired by 1st grade science goals.
However, younger students may enjoy the wonderful photos and learn quite a bit from the interesting information provided from the group discussion.
Adjust the writing expectations to fit the level of your students: a short sentence vs. a three sentence argumentative paragraph.
These could also provide review for 2nd or even 3rd graders or be used by teachers working with students who would benefit from hands on learning materials and real photographs.
Kids love animals and they will love learning more about them with these activities.
Everything is included to extend their learning and keep then engaged.
Here's feedback from other teachers:
- "I love this resource, very helpful to teach students animal adaptations!"
- "Great resource for my adaptation unit."
- "Just what I was looking for to add to my animal unit!"
This year, enjoy teaching science and watch your young scientists grow.
