★ Pick ‘n MEX

Mix and match the alebrijes’ flashy parts and stick them to: the blank egg template, the blank armadillo template or to a paper plate.

★ 3D Paper Plate Alebrijes

Fold a paper plate in half to make a 3D alebrije that shows a front-back design or left-right design. Your choice! Optionally, you can paint the paper plate for a different texture in the background.

★ Recycled Alebrijes

Use a recycled material as a base for your alebrije’s body. For example: cardboard tube roll, cardboard box, plastic bottle, juice or milk carton.

★ Hanging Snake Alebrije Craft

Colour-in the template and cut out your snake, following the dotted line. These look great as a group decoration hanging off the classroom's ceiling.

★ Armadillo Alebrije Art

Finish off the armadillo alebrije, either by adding color to the coloring page or by doodling your own fun designs in the blank armadillo template.

Practice scissors skills, OR NOT!

This buenísima actividad Mexicana can be used with students of ANY artistic ability.

Want a zero-prep Mexican activity? Scissors-free versions of this activity are included, besides the other versions with clear cutting guides.

► About Day of the Dead

In modern Mexico culture we celebrate Dia de Los Muertos (one day after Halloween). This Mexican tradition honors life after dead, if that makes sense... I would say that Day of the Dead is more about gathering with your loved ones to remember the ones that have left us. We do so in a positive light, remembering what our "difuntos" used to like when they were walking on this Earth. That is why we set up "ofrendas" (offering altars) with their favorite treats and decorations such as sugar skulls and alebrijes.

In modern Mexico culture we do celebrate Halloween but we cherish more Day of The Dead as a Mexican tradition that has been around for longer. Save $$ with our DAY OF THE DEAD MINI BUNDLE.

Use this Mexican Alebrije craft as one of your hispanic heritage month activities.
