QUICK SUMMARY

This professionally-published picture book by author Ellen B. Senisi and photographer Thomas Marent contains stunning photographs and simple, age-appropriate text. There are 1-2 sentences per page. The back page features a list of brief details about each page so key information can be identified. (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.1.5 Know and use various text features (e.g., headings, tables of contents, glossaries, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text.)
GRADE LEVELS AND TIMING
This title is most appropriate for grades K and 1 but may also be used for pre-K or grade 2 students, especially challenged readers and students with special needs. A reading of the book and completion of all or most of the suggested follow up resources will likely take one week. This recommendation is based on an estimate of 20-30 minutes per lesson for grades K-2.

— Tech staff should be asked to allow downloads for students as well as teachers if teachers want students to view the videos on their devices.
— Sounds like a spot of bother, huh? Perhaps, but the benefits of interactive media are well worth it. PDFs have limited interactive options - and they can be inconsistent and buggy.

The following NGSS Performance Expectations are addressed as students in grades K, 1, and 2 read or listen to All in a Rainforest Day and complete the coordinated Teacher Resource follow up activities. NGSS Disciplinary Core Ideas and CC ELA standards are shown in the included teacher guide.
From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes K-LS1-1
Use observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals (including humans) need to survive. Examples of patterns could include that animals need to take in food but plants do not; the different kinds of food needed by different types of animals; the requirement of plants to have light; and, that all living things need water.
Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity 2-LS4-1
Make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats. Emphasis is on the diversity of living things in each of a variety of different habitats. Assessment does not include specific animal and plant names in specific habitats.
Multiple CC ELA standards are also addressed.
