What educators are saying

This was great! Everything was well put together and easy to understand! The use of class was really easy and we were able to have fun with it!
This was a great way to ensure my freshmen were engaged throughout the movie and paying attention. There are a lot of questions - so I would pause briefly every so often to recap and make sure students were doing okay - but overall it was a great way to hold their attention to the movie.

Description

The following eight-page study guide film packet that can be used in an English, film studies, or media studies class is used to accompany the Carl Franklin-directed 2013 film "Bless Me, Ultima" that is a film adaptation of Rudolfo Anaya's 1972 novel. The first page contains a list of cast and crew and a background and introduction on the film. The second page is a page that allows viewers to jot and take down their own notes. Pages three, four, five, six, and seven contain comprehension questions to guide the viewer on the work's characterization, cinematography, conflict, costume design, editing, inferences, mise en scene, plot, setting, sound, story, and themes. The eighth page contains discussion questions on the work's characterization, issues/topics, symbolism, and themes.

The film and packet can be used on their own without having taught or read Anaya's novel or they can be used as an activity to enrich one's understanding of the novel or to discuss how novels are adapted to films and the choices filmmakers make when adapting films.
