What educators are saying

Sometimes it can be difficult to get students to talk about the books they read without prompting a bunch of questions. This resource will help eliminate you asking so many questions while having your students work cooperatively.

Can elementary students Book Talk? YES!!

I tell my students there is no wrong way to talk about books! But, do our elementary students need guidance, modeling and a process to help guide them when implementing book talks? YES!

If you are looking for a mini lesson with support to begin book talks in your elementary classroom or library here is the steps and support in this product:

Page 2: Anchor Chart:

(I printed this on a poster printer to have big for my Book Talk Mini Lesson. I also have seen teachers print regular paper size for their students to have in a literacy notebook to refer back to.)

Page 3: Anchor Chart/ Printable

(I also printed this on a poster printer have big for my Book Talk Mini Lesson. I then printed in regular handout size for my students to write on. I explained to my elementary students that when you begin to book talk about your favorite reads it is very helpful to first start out by getting your thoughts down on paper. Later as we get better we will no longer have to write our thoughts down.)

Page 4: Flip Book

This is another fun way to allow our students to write their thoughts down about their book in order to practice their book talk before they present it orally.

Page 5: Book Talk Prompting Cards

These prompting cards can remind your students the steps to create their book talk. They could be laminated and put on a ring to help them as they are creating their book talks. They could also be laminated and put in a literacy notebook to pull out as they need support.
