What educators are saying

My students loved this! They were extremely engaged and were so excited to see an example of a chromatography test like what we did in class!
This was fun! I used this as an extra activity for a group of students. My only issue is that there was a lot of printing involved.

Description

In this no prep digital escape room activity, students solve a CSI: Crime Scene mystery using forensic science and critical thinking. In the no prep activities, students analyze 4 different pieces of evidence (fingerprints, shoe prints, unknown powder, and pen samples) and keep track of evidence and suspects. They use their power of observations to “crack the case” and prove their innocence by figuring out who really committed the crime.

This activity can be done all at once in the format of an escape room to try to “beat the clock” or it can be broken up into different days/lessons for each piece of evidence.

**This CSI escape room is a completely digital version of my best selling escape room found HERE.**

Overview of activities:

Fingerprint analysis – Students compare fingerprints found at the crime scene to those of the suspects to determine who was at the scene of the crime.

Shoe print analysis – Students compare the shoes of the suspects to a muddy footprint found at the crime scene. To determine the brand and size of the shoe.

White powder – Students observe chemical testing on the unknown white powder to identify it and see where the evidence leads

Ink Testing – Observe a paper chromatography test to determine who left the note at the crime scene.

Finally, with all the evidence, students figure out who the evidence points to.

Students are immersed in the experience by following a fun and engaging story line that puts them right in the middle of the action. As students complete each activity, they are given a code to enter to open an electronic document to move through the case. Once they have completed the final activity, they will have enough evidence to determine who did it.
