1. MORNING WORK, YEAR LONG:
You will receive 40 weeks (180 days) of morning work. Each week includes a day for Monday-Friday. Each week has the following structure:
"Today Is (Monday)": Leave this slide as it is or drag over one of 27 creative sticky notes to write a quick message to your class. The black and white printable version does not have the sticky notes.
Monday, Math Logic Puzzles: There are two different math logic puzzles every Monday (with answer keys) so you can choose the option best for your class and/or differentiate through enrichment or remediation. Option 1: Single digit addition and subtraction. Option 2: Double Digit Addition and Subtraction. These puzzles build a foundation for algebra as students work to find missing variables. I recommend beginning with the single digit addition and subtraction regardless of the grade you teach to allow your students time to learn the logic component of these puzzles.
Tuesday, Fab Libs: First, students write one word for each of the grammar prompts (ie noun, verb, adjective). After students have finished writing, flip to the story and read it aloud pausing to let students fill in their word to create a funny and original story.
Wednesday, Draw It: Not only does this bring the importance of the arts into the classroom, it also helps students improve fine motor skills needed for handwriting. It is also an engaging way for students to practice following directions.
Thursday, What's My Number: Students use clues to figure out a hidden number. There are two versions so you are able to pick one most appropriate for your class and/or differentiate as needed. I typically project the version that most of the class will use and then pass out the printable black and white version to students who need either remediation or enrichment. Option 1: A number between 1-100. Option 2: A number between 1-1,000,000
Friday, Would You Rather: These are engaging writing prompts that students love to share and debate. Students each decide which of the two options they "would rather" and then write and explain why they prefer that option.
Time: Each day will take approximately 10-15 minutes. The structure of each week is the same helping students to predict expectations and eliminate the need for directions after the first few weeks. Consistency is key!
Editable Pages: A blank template slide and pdf for each of the days of the week is included so you can add your own text. Images are not moveable or editable.
In This Resource, You'll Receive:
1 link to Google Slides, 814 slides
1 PowerPoint, 814 slides
1 PDF of black and white pages, 526 page
2. MORNING MEETINGS, YEAR LONG:
Save countless hours with these no prep, interactive "Cats and Dogs Morning Meetings" slides available in both Google Slides and PowerPoint. There are 40 weeks of meetings ready to go! These look gorgeous displayed on a digital whiteboard or computer and include customizable and interactive elements. Please watch the video to see me click through the first week to decide if this resource is right for you.
Detailed Description:
You will receive 40 weeks (180 days) of morning meeting slides. Each week includes a day for Monday-Friday. Each day has the following structure:
"Today Is (Monday)": Leave this slide as it is or drag over one of 27 creative sticky notes to write a quick message to your class. These slides are customizable.
"Hello Class": There are 30 fun greetings that repeat throughout the year to keep things fresh but also help students learn each greeting so they are able to carry them out easily. The greetings are interactive and designed to be done either in partners or with the whole class. These slides are not editable.
"Let's Talk": There are 180 conversation starters. They vary between "Would You Rather", "Topic Prompts" and "Fascinating Facts Guessing". This time of sharing helps students to get to know each other, practice listening and model public speaking skills. Depending on the time you have, you can have students join in partners to share, raise their hand to share with the class, or go around the circle to have each child share. These slides are not editable.
"Get Moving": There are 30 activities that repeat throughout the year to get your students up and moving. The repetition will help your class to learn each game so you can spend your time playing instead of directing. Each game is designed to be played with either partners or as a whole class and have been chosen to foster teamwork and communication. These slides are not editable
"Teacher's Message": Write a quick note to your class and drag over images to celebrate birthdays, create seasonal themes, add announcements, reminders, or include daily objectives. There are 62 drag and drop images that you can use to customize these slides anyway you want. The images include sticky notes, arrows, school images, seasonal images, holiday images, and birthday frames. These slides are customizable.
"Growth Mindset": Twenty positive growth mindset statements are included. The goal is for students to memorize these over the course of the year so the statements become a part of their inner voice. Each statement is reviewed for a full week for the first 20 weeks. On Monday, the class will read the statement aloud (chorally) 2-3 times. Tuesday-Thursday, a few of the words will be covered with moveable yellow boxes to aid in memorization. On Friday, the entire statement is covered. After the first 20 weeks, these statements are reviewed throughout the year. These slides are interactive.
Editable: Three "Hello Class" slides to use to add your own text, one "Let's Talk" slide to use to add your own text, three "Get Moving" slides to use to add your own text, and one "Let's Talk" slide to use to add your own text. The images are not editable.
Time: Each day will take approximately 15-20 minutes but can be easily shortened or lengthened depending on how much time you spend on sharing. The structure of each day is the same helping students to predict expectations and eliminate the need for directions after the first few weeks. Consistency is key!
In This Resource, You'll Receive:
1 link to Google Slides, 1,084 pages
1 PowerPoint, 1084 pages
3. READING COMPREHENSION STRATEGIES, YEAR LONG:
Purpose:
Students often struggle when asked to use the Reading Comprehension Strategies of questioning, inferring, identifying the main idea and details, sequencing and using advanced vocabulary. Children who struggle with reading have even more difficulty as they are juggling first reading a passage and then trying to apply a complex reading strategy. This resource takes the reading passage out and, instead, uses photos so skills specific to reading comprehension strategies can be taught and practiced without the cognitive load of reading. By daily practicing these five reading comprehension skills, students will be able to easily apply the strategies when presented with text.
Detailed Description:
You will receive 40 weeks (180 days) of Reading Comprehension Strategies for Morning Work or Warm Ups (with Differentiation). Colored slides are available in Google Slides and PowerPoint; just project a slide and have your students write their response in a notebook. Black and White PDFs are a perfect print and go option. An example is provided for each of the five reading strategies to assist with modeling and teaching. In addition, two options of all 180 prompts are included so you are able to differentiate through enrichment or remediation.
The following five reading comprehension strategies are repeated for each of the 40 weeks:
"Questioning": 40 prompts are provided. Option 1 has students ask a question that can be answered by looking at the picture and then answer the question using evidence from the photo. Option 2 asks a question and then provides a sentence starter for students' one-sentence answer.
"Main Idea and Details": 40 prompts are provided. Option 1 has students identify the main idea of the photo and then list four key details. Option 2 is similar but provides a sentence starter and asks for only three details.
"Inference": 40 prompts are provided. Option 1 has students list everything they observe in the picture and then make an inference stating the evidence used. Option 2 is similar but limits observations to four and provides a sentence starter.
"Sequencing": 40 prompts are provided. Option 1 has students sequence events including what happened before the photo, what is happening in the photo, and what will happen after the photo. Option 2 is similar but with sentence starters and using the key words "first, then and lastly".
"Vocabulary": 40 prompts are provided. Option 1 has students list five vocabulary words that they think of when looking at the photo and then choose three of the vocabulary words and use them in a sentence to describe the photo. Option 2 provides four vocabulary words and has students use two of the vocabulary words in two sentences describing the photo.
Time: Each day will take approximately 5-15 minutes depending on your students' ages and writing abilities. The structure of each day is the same helping students to predict expectations and eliminate the need for directions after the first few weeks. Consistency is key!
Ideas for Use: Use this as no prep morning work or warm up. Project a slide each morning and have students write their responses in a notebook.
1. Print the PDF and pass out to students. You can project the slide at the same time if desired.
2. Print only a few copies of the black and white PDF version for students who struggle with writing in a notebook without structure; have the rest of the class use the projected slide and write in their notebook.
3. Push the Google Slides or PowerPoint version out digitally and have students complete them digitally.
4. The black and white PDF version works great for center activities or posted around the room for stations.
