What educators are saying

I was very satisfied with this resource! I used the passages both in small groups and for independent work.
I liked how some responses required students to identify the cause while others asked for the effect. The questions were both written response and multiple choice. The different question structures gave me a good idea of students' understanding.

Description

Cause and Effect: This resource contains 5 reading passages, each followed by a cause and effect worksheet. Three of the passages are fiction, while the other two are nonfiction. Each passage spans two pages, and can therefore be printed so that it is a 2-sided worksheet activity with the passage on one side and the related graphic organizers on the other side.

Students read each passage, and then study the graphic organizer worksheets that follows. Students must fill in two or three blank boxes to complete each cause and effect relationship shown by the graphic organizer. The last item on each worksheet is a multiple-choice question. Students must read the question and identify the correct answer.

Worksheet 1: Kickball (fiction passage)

Worksheet 2: The Note (fiction passage)

Worksheet 3: Bubble Trouble (fiction passage)

Worksheet 4: The Chocolate Chip Cookie (nonfiction passage)

Worksheet 5: Ray Kroc (nonfiction passage)

These no-prep theme worksheets are ready to go for you. Just print and go! With five unique passages, this packet is ideal for teachers who wish to use a scaffolded approach, like the "I Do, We Do, You Do" teaching strategy. You can complete one or two worksheets as a class or small group, and then have the students complete the remaining worksheets independently.

Answer keys are included.

********This resource is available in TWO FORMATS:

  1. TRADITIONAL PRINTABLES- Print the PDF and distribute paper copies to your students to complete.
  2. TPT EASEL ACTIVITY- I created a new version for this digital format. Students can complete this activity on a device. Students read each passage and then fill out the cause and effect graphic organizers that follow. Some questions require students to answer by typing complete sentences in text boxes. Other questions have a multiple-choice format, and students move the circle to select their answer (A, B, C, or D).
