What educators are saying

Great way to teach the Crusades while also teaching the students to use various informational sources
This was a great activity for my 9th grade students. It would be great if this assignment was google compatible. Nevertheless, my students learned a lot about the Crusades from this lesson. Thank you!

Description

The main goal of this lesson is to have students analyze primary and secondary sources to determine various causes and impacts of the Crusades:

This lesson has a total of 2 DBQ’s:

  • DBQ 1 – Causes of the Crusades (5 documents)
  • DBQ 2 – Impacts of the Crusades (5 Documents)

In total, there are 7 potential activity options for this lesson!

DBQ1 – Causes of the Crusades:

  • Option 1 – Answer the analysis questions based on the documents
  • Option 2 – Complete the “Agree or Disagree Worksheet” where students decide whether they agree or disagree with the different statements.
  • Option 3 – Students use the Causes of the Crusades Organizer to describe the Religious, Economic, Political, and Social reasons for the Crusades

DBQ 2 – The Impacts of the Crusades

  • Option 1 – Answer the analysis questions based on the documents
  • Option 2 – Complete the “Positive or Negative Worksheet” where students determine the positive and negative impacts of the Crusades.
  • Option 3 – Complete the “Agree or Disagree Worksheet” where students decide whether they agree or disagree with the different statements.

Combination Option - DBQ’s 1 and 2: Students complete the Cause and Effect Chart. (This will work best if different sides of the chart were divided up among the class)

This lesson has been adapted for digital learning. Students can use apps such as LuminPDF or Dochub to complete and submit the fillable PDF files.
