What educators are saying

My students were very engaged with this and while it was challenging they were able to complete it mostly independently with their partner.
This was fun with my students. I let them all do it individually, but they were able to ask each other for help. Worked well.

If you are familiar with Breakout EDU, this is a digital escape room that is completely PAPERLESS!

5 things to love about this Google Form Escape Room:

1. NO-PREP! There is nothing to print, cut, laminate, clues to hide, or locks to set. Everything is ready for your students right in the form! They don’t have to have two different tabs open with a site/form/etc.

2. Students encounter a digital boarding pass, newspaper article about their adventure, receipt from their next plane ticket to find clues, and full color photos with the text.

3. This digital escape room can be used with computers, chrome books, OR iPads.

4. There are TWO forms for you to choose from based on your students' ability and time allotted.

5. You do NOT need Google Classroom- there are no logins to participate. You can share the link with your students through SeeSaw, via Google Classroom, any other class site, OR there are QR codes provided for your students to access it on their mobile devices.

Students have to read the content about each country to answer the questions and use critical thinking skills to solve the puzzles and unlock the codes. There are clues to help them unlock each section of the Google Form and advance to the next country like "The Amazing Race”. Once they successfully reach the North Pole, they will see a fun congratulations message!

What is included in this unique CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD DIGITAL ESCAPE ROOM for students:

There are TWO different forms included for you to choose from based on your students' grade level, abilities, and time you have allotted for the activity.

*Use the Google Form that works best for your students. Consider their ability level and grade level. Also, if you are restricted with time you will want to use Version 1. It covers the same content with one less country to visit, one less section for Mexico, and has a few less questions.

*See more in my instagram Highlight on @katiesurly

Questions cover:

-Holiday traditions and history for the countries of Germany, Italy, Mexico (+additional country of France in Escape Room Version 2!)

-synonyms

-using context clues to choose the best meaning of key vocabulary words

-Finding evidence in the text

-ABC order

Note: This is not an editable form. All you have to do is copy and paste the link and push it out to students. You will not be making a copy for all students. Unlike other quizzes or surveys your students may have taken in Google Forms, students MUST get the answer correct before advancing to the next question and section (vs. it being 'graded' at the end). All student results are the same because of the answer validation function in the escape room! Students do NOT need a Google account and student names are not collected. If students “breakout” or “escape”, they not only finished each section but got every answer correct because students CANNOT advance to the next section without the exact answer. Watch the preview video to see this in action!

Please make sure your district does not have Google Forms blocked as no refunds will be given because of this. Thanks for understanding. You do not need Google logins, but you will need access to Google Forms with the provided link.

Here are a few tips for using this product with distance learning:

Depending on your grade and student abilities, I recommend providing these supports:

1. Emailing parents the answer key to help if their child gets stuck since you aren't there in person to provide hints if needed. This would help avoid any frustrations since they aren't able to collaborate as a group as it's designed.

2. Encourage students to do the activity when you have live 'office hours' or a live Google Meet to answer questions in Google Classroom or your classroom share tool. Remember this is a fun breakout activity, and not an assignment you would take a grade for so this should relieve any pressure on families!! Please make sure this is clear.

3. Some of you have told me that you've done this as a class together in a Zoom or Google Meet. I love hearing this! Many of you have utilized breakout groups for this so students can still work together and it has been successful!

4. If you want to know they participated, have them take a screenshot of the last country the arrived at or share their screen with you like they would in the classroom. If they didn't have time to make it to the end to breakout, they can just take a screenshot of where they ended when the time was up! You could also have them send you three things they learned in the comments after. Then you can go over the breakout together as a class so everyone goes through the process together!

If you have any questions, please email me at katiesurly@gmail.com - I'm happy to help!
