Description

Which is it: a Christmas song or a poem? Add some Christmas cheer to your classroom with this fun activity! (Then use it to stump your staff at the seasonal party!) Your students will have so much fun trying to decide whether the quote is from a poem or lyrics from a Christmas song! You can use the interactive bulletin board display OR the student handout and presentation as an anticipatory set to ignite excitement and appreciation for poetry.

The zipped bundle includes a 38-page PDF for the interactive bulletin board (36 quote cards + two heading pages), a 2-page PDF student handout (36-question "quiz"), a 2-page teacher answer key, and a 115-slide presentation (updated to include an editable PowerPoint presentation as well as the PDF). The presentation and the interactive bulletin board both include the answers with the titles and artists. I have also included a paper-saver option for the bulletin board where you can print two-sided with two cards on one page.

Christmas songs featured include: Deck the Halls, Do You Hear What I Hear?, Hark! the Herald Angels Sing, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Here Comes Santa Claus, It Came Upon the Midnight Clear, It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Jingle Bells, Joy To the World, O Christmas Tree, O Come, All Ye Faithful, Silver Bells, Sleigh Ride, The First Noel, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, White Christmas, Winter Wonderland.

Poets featured incude: Samuel Taylor Coleridge, E.E. Cummings, Emily Dickinson, John Donne, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Robert Frost, Robert Graves, Thomas Hardy, Samuel Johnson, Ben Jonson, Rudyard Kipling, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, John Milton, Clement Clarke Moore, Christina Rossetti, William Shakespeare, Robert Louis Stevenson, Sara Teasdale, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Charles Wesley, John Greenleaf Whittier.

NONE of the quotes included are featured in any other pack.

It's a great way for your students to have a POSITIVE attitude about poetry and English class, in general. It also helps them see that the lines of poems are very much like song lyrics, which helps students to understand the meaning.

Please be patient while downloading as it is a very large zipped folder. If you have trouble unzipping it, re-download and wait several minutes before unzipping.
