Classroom Job Board to Teach Canadian Government

Use this unique job board to teach your students more about government. Most classrooms have classroom jobs, this job board not only helps to get students helping out around the classroom but also helps them to understand important pieces of how government works in a practical hands-on way.

There are two components to this job board:
1) Elections and Leadership:
* Learn different ways leaders are elected.
* Learn about different types of elections (Majority Rules, Primary Election, One Member One Vote, Two Ballot Plurality)

2) How Governments Help: Help your students discover that governments help people by breaking up the tasks of running a country into different departments.


In the classroom
Students become ministers of different departments that mimic real government ministries. The job descriptions reflect the work that is commonly done by students using traditional.

These are also included in an editable version so that teachers can customize the job descriptions to meet the needs of the classroom.

Jobs include:
Minister of the Environment - responsible for garbage and recycling
Minister of Innovation - takes care of classroom technology
Minister of Education - helps with textbooks and other resources
Minister of Natural Resources - helps with classroom supplies
Minister of Sports and Entertainment - manages the recess and gym equipment
Minister of National Security - shuts of doors and lights
Minister of Travel and Tourism - Helps to sort trip forms
Minister of Forestry - responsible for keep pencils sharp and stocked
Minister of Human Resources - teachers helper
Minister of Justice - peer helper/lead problem solver
Minister of Transport - lead the line of students through the hall
Minister of Communication - share information from the class on social media


How it Works
1) Students will fill out an application for the job they want
2) Then they will participate in an election for the leader (President or Prime Minister)
3) They then will vote for the ministers
4) Finally, any students without a specific job will sign up to work for a ministry to help them out with their daily and weekly tasks.
