Description

Columbus Day - Before and After Schema Freebie

Columbus Day Freebie: This graphic organizer comes from my Columbus Day themed social studies and literacy unit that is designed to teach upper elementary students the historical truth about Christopher Columbus. Columbus Day is celebrated on the second Monday in October each year in America. I use this graphic organizer to have students brainstorm everything they think they know about Columbus before beginning the unit. After the unit, we return to this graphic organizer and write what we know about Columbus now. The kids are always surprised to see how many myths they believed about Columbus before beginning the unit!

This graphic organizer is part of my Columbus Day Unit, which includes:

* Columbus Day Non-Fiction Passage with Comprehension Questions and Answer Key (Christopher Columbus: The Myths Revealed)

* Columbus Day Reader's Theater Play

* Constitution Coloring Books (Full-page, Half-page, and Projectable Color Display)

* Columbus Day full-page Vocabulary Posters (archipelago, colony, expand, explorer, hypothesis, inhabitant, route, seize, sphere, voyage)

* Columbus Day Vocabulary Worksheet (Match and Draw It)

* Columbus Day Vocabulary Fold-Up Graphic Organizers with differentiated support (interactive notebook)

* Columbus Day Alpha-Sort graphic organizer

* Columbus Day Select Two and Reflect writing page

* Columbus Day Word Builders - includes the following words: Columbus Day, The New World, archipelago, navigation, King Ferdinand, Queen Isabella
