Description
This WebQuest Challenge follows holidays with costumes around the world!
This is a digital activity consisting of 6 challenges, each of which deals with a different holiday-
- Halloween (Various countries)
- Mardi Gras (Various countries)
- Purim (Israel)
- St. Lucia Day (Sweden, Norway)
- Day of the Dead (Mexico)
- Venice Carnival (Italy)
The activity also includes a concluding challenge.
In each challenge, students will be required to perform various tasks such as: assemble a puzzle, find clues on Google Maps, solve a coded message, take a virtual tour, solve a picture riddle, unscramble words, watch a video, and more. Students are also required to answer several questions about each of the holidays, its costumes, and their meaning. In addition to that, this activity greatly enhances students' internet research skills.
This activity is suitable for grades 6-12, as part of the study of "Holidays Around the World" or Halloween!
To progress from one challenge to another, students will need to enter a code that will unlock the next challenge. Each code is related to the holiday they were working on.
This activity is suitable for distance learning, by using Google Drive, Google Classroom, or simply by sharing the link with students. There is no need to print anything or use any paper! All you need is a computer and an internet connection.
The only prep you need to do for this activity is to upload one file to your Google Classroom or share the provided link with students. From there the students follow the instructions and progress at their own pace.
You can decide whether to hold the activity as a competition - The student who completes all the challenges first is the winner. Alternatively, the activity can be used as a homework assignment or during class.
Students will be able to type directly into the documents, but it will not affect your copy or the other students’ copies.
The duration of the activity is approximately two hours.
