This is one of our favorite Halloween books, so we had to try out this STEM project. We had so much fun! Thank you for a great product!
I love this resource. I used it when our grade level did rotations on Halloween. I read the book using Novel Effects. Then the STEM project was very engaging for the students. Overall, I highly recommend this resource.

Description

Can you contain the creepy carrots?

Make learning fun with this Halloween STEM activity in which students engineer a fence to contain the Creepy Carrots! An excellent companion activity to the fall read aloud book Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds.

The Engineering Design Process:

In this STEM Challenge, students design and build a fence as tall as they can around a patch of creepy carrots using popsicle sticks and clothespins. They follow the six step Engineering Design Process: Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Experiment, Improve.

Students plan, design, and execute their own ideas. After they have completed their activity, there is time for reflection on what worked and what didn't.

Writing Extension:

A writing extension is included for students to write a short story about what would happen if the carrots escaped from their fence.

Aligns with Common Core and NGSS.
