“I'm so thankful for these engaging, decodable books, stories and activities! They're easy to use (just print, and sometimes cut-and-staple) and you have a tool that's an important stepping stone on the journey to reading with confidence and skill.”
    – Laureen G.

“Moving to the Science of Reading, finding good decodable books is a priority. These are extensive and age-appropriate options! I'm thankful I found these.”
    – Denise P.

“I love these decodable readers! They are closely tied to particular phonics concepts. My first graders love reading them! I love that the author included comprehension questions too.”
    – Kinley C.

“These books/passages are amazing! I really appreciate that they have running records still, so that I can take notes on their reading and utilize that to focus in on what phonics skill they still need to work on. I really like that I can go in and find a reading passage using any phonics skill and print it out quickly.”
    – Devionare H.

“This is one of the best resources I have purchased for my classroom I use it as readers that support the phonics program that I teach as well as with my special Ed students that are working significantly below grade level.”
    – Nicole D.

    Frequently Asked Questions:

What scope and sequence or program do these texts follow?

You can use these decodable texts with any phonics program. You can view the skills covered in each book, as well as the sequence of the skills, in the free preview file.

Will these books match my high frequency word instruction?

Your students can be successful reading these decodable books even if your high frequency word instruction is not a 100% match. Each lesson plan lists out all the high frequency words / irregular words covered in the text, so you can pre-teach any words that students do not already know.

Will this cover all my phonics instruction?

No. These decodable texts are meant to supplement a phonics program, not replace one. You will still need explicit, systematic phonics lessons to teach each sound / pattern. If you need a complete program, check out From Sounds to Spelling (available off TpT).

Are these decodable texts the same ones in your phonics program, From Sounds to Spelling?

No - they are different! They will work nicely with the program if you find yourself needing more decodable books or decodable passages.

Why are the Kindergarten and 1st grade texts available in a decodable book format AND passage format, but the 2nd grade texts are available only in a decodable passage format?

Typically, texts at a second grade level include more challenging words than in 1st and Kindergarten. Therefore, more of the meaning of the text is conveyed through the words rather than the pictures. The 2nd grade decodable passages do have illustrations, but the texts are included in a 1-page format to save paper, ink, and prep time.
