Dictionary Skills Context Clues STAAR prep TEK 6.2E Lesson 1

Do your students struggle with dictionary standards involving words with multiple meanings? This dictionary-based practice set allows students to practice using context clues and inferencing to decide which definition is being used within a passage. This is oftentimes seen on STAAR / state testing and is a difficult concept for students to master!

This resource includes:

✔️ 6 Short reading passages featuring 1-2 underlined vocabulary words

✔️ 10 mock dictionary excerpts, showing multiple definitions for the word

✔️ 10 questions asking students to choose which definition is being used in the passage above

✔️ Answer key for fast grading or sub plans

Example:

Students read an excerpt using the word "haul".

Then, they look at the provided mock dictionary excerpt and see that "haul" has 4 definitions listed. Students must determine which correct definition is being used in their specific reading passage, and will circle the answer choice.

Questions are formatted for STAAR and other state testing exams. Answer choices alternate between A,B,C,D and F,G,H,J so students are familiar with state test formatting.
