What educators are saying

This is a great tool for introducing students to architecture and home design. It gives the students the opportunity to explore various house plans and how to fit their “wants” onto a given sized building lot!
My favorite activity that we do in geometry the whole year. I loved seeing my students' dream houses and their creativity.

Description

Dream House Design Project. After 20+ years, this is still a student favorite in my classes! Students will design their dream house, giving area and perimeter of each room. The checklist AND rubric are editable…adaptable for pre-algebra through geometry class! Everything you need is here…teacher info, student instructions, rubric, student checklist, student supply list, and photo samples from my outstanding student projects! Extension activity is also included: Students will research home prices in various cities and write up their own real estate ad to sell their dream house. A great way to incorporate writing into the math classroom!

How to adapt for multiple levels: My 8th grade geometry class is required to use regular polygons (hexagons, octagons, etc.) for some of their room shapes. My pre-algebra students are required to use triangles & work with the Pythagorean Theorem. You can adapt this project to fit your class needs!
