Description

Are you looking for an easy-to-use activity to help your students practice Estimating Square Roots? These three differentiated worksheets help you effectively reach all your students. A gray box on the top of each page explains how to estimate square roots, making it easier for caregivers to help with homework. Answer keys are provided for easy grading.

Students estimate square roots by figuring out what 2 integers the square root is between. For example, the square root of 23 is between 4 and 5 – it is closer to 5.

How are these worksheets differentiated?

These worksheets include 3 different levels.
✅ Level 1 is basic and is the easiest.
✅ Level 2 is intermediate and is a little more difficult.
✅ Level 3 is advanced and is the most challenging.

With 3 different levels of difficulty, you can differentiate by student or by class. Students will gain confidence as they start with easier questions and then move to more challenging questions.

Use rational approximations of irrational numbers to compare the size of irrational numbers, locate them approximately on a number line diagram, and estimate the value of expressions (e.g., π²). For example, by truncating the decimal expansion of √2, show that √2 is between 1 and 2, then between 1.4 and 1.5, and explain how to continue on to get better approximations.
