Description
Students will learn basic money skills and how to use it in a positive manner as a tool (7SS.B.30). Students experience what income is and how it affects their personal budget (30.a). The definitions of credit and debit will be compared and contrasted throughout the lesson for financial understanding. The lesson begins with students given a blank check where they use any previous knowledge on how to fill it out accurately. Students are given a primary source called “Ordeal by Cheque” by Wuther Crue where they assess the meaning behind the checks, this acts as a mini-lesson and work-period. For closing the lesson students will randomly select a set budget and a set bill. With that information, students are to create a budget consisting of three items: personal needs (entertainment), a bill (rent, utilities, car payment), and life sustainability (groceries, gas, clothing) purchases.
