First Grade Famous Americans Biography Study- Bundled for the Full Year

This is a bundle of 68 pages to help you teach Georgia's Famous Americans for first graders. It is Common Core Aligned AND Differentiated! With one packet you can be ready for Social Studies the entire school year.

This bundle includes these American Heroes: Lewis and Clark, Harriet Tubman, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, Ruby Bridges, George Washington Carver, and Benjamin Franklin.

In every unit, students will create a biography page about the life of that Famous American (along with an accompanying glossary page to reinforce that key vocabulary). You can print off the individual pages for each American hero OR you can turn it into a nonfiction/informational text as you write it throughout the year! Whichever works for you and your teaching style!

But wait! Did I mention it is easily DIFFERENTIATED to meet your kiddos needs? For your above or on level students there is a blank biography template so they can research and find their own answers to each section, for your on or below level kids there is a traceable option to use as well! There are also pages that have it completely filled in for an option of simply printing it as a guided reading option.

-Biography Cover Page
-Table of Contents (includes a blank template, a template with a "tracing" of a suggested answers, teacher guide/answer key)
-Blank Biography Template (if you want to have students completely fill it in themselves or even do a DIFFERENT hero that isn't included in this packet)
-Biography Page (includes a tracing page and a teacher answer guide) for each Famous American
-Blank Glossary Template (again if you want your higher students to complete it themselves or if you want to use it to research a different American

The next 34 pages are ALL the biographies offered at half size to ease your printing woes!! Yay for saving copy paper!

Each "mini biography" I have last about a week. Day 1: I introduce my newest hero and we fill in the portrait section, write when the hero is born and what their jobs were. Day 2: We always discuss character traits in depth and how we can apply it to our lives. Then we fill it in on the bio page. Day 4: We write our favorite thing that that we have learned so far about this American hero Day 5: Write 3 facts that we have learned about that hero! The best part is you can go at a pace that works for your kids!!

This curriculum takes me from September - May as a first grade teacher. I do 1 hero every two weeks and my student's reading and writing goes through the roof. Plus, they are learning about true heroes, building character, and filling up my grade book as we go!
