First Grade Word Work and Phonics Focused Passages and Activities - SOR Aligned

This is an all-year Science of Reading aligned Word Work and Phonics resource for 1st Graders. Word Families are introduced in Phonics Focused Short Stories and reinforced daily in different activities.

This resource promotes phonics awareness, word recognition, vocabulary development, and text comprehension, making it a great addition to literacy centers and small group instruction!

The weekly activities included in this First Grade Word Work packet consist of reading a story and identifying Word Family words, writing sentences, putting Word Family words in alphabetical order, identifying sound and spelling patterns, and using Word Family words in context. Students become familiar with the format of this resource and can work independently!

Every week your students will:

• read a short story with focus on two phonics patterns,

• circle the words that belong to the week’s word families,

• sort the words according to their spelling pattern,

• create words applying the learned spelling pattern,

• write sentences with the target words,

• write words in alphabetical order.

This resource can be easily used in whole group lessons, small groups, literacy centers, or assigned as homework. It is only one page when printed double-sided.
