Fractured Fairy Tales Unit- 40 lessons reading writing film making-US Spelling

Fairy Tales are short stories that can be used with children of all ages. Most children will have some background knowledge of at least a few fairy tales which makes this genre of writing accessible to all.

This unit of work is aimed at Grade 5-7 but can be easily adapted lower or higher - in fact, I have included vocabulary lists from Grade 4 upwards!

I have used this unit with kids from Grade 6-8 and always had success. Something about fairy tales puts kids on an even playing field no matter what their literacy levels, so I have found this particularly engaging for low literacy learners.

The ICT components of making Animated Films or Comic Strips is always a winner, particularly with boys! If your school doesnt have access to lots of computers, cameras or projectors though, the old-fashioned puppet show or flip cartoon is just as fun and effective.
