Functional Math Special Education Family Consumer Science Reading a Recipe

Kitchen Math: You will download a functional math special education activities packet for your students to practice reading a recipe. These life skills worksheets work well in your functional math and reading curriculum along with your family and consumer science classes. The cooking measurement activities are appropriate for many grade levels and abilities.

Your special education students will be reading a recipe to make seasoned crackers. It is a real recipe, so you may also use it with your cooking measurement activities. There are 20 functional reading comprehension questions about the recipe. Finally, using measuring cups and manipulatives (optional), such as corn, rice, or beans, your students will answer 8 functional math measurements questions related to cooking in the kitchen. For example, what is the difference between a teaspoon and a tablespoon? How much total baking soda and salt are in this recipe?
