Description

In this NO-PREP activity, students will move around the room to practice transformations in geometry. This is READY TO PRINT and will KEEP STUDENTS ENGAGED while working on their geometry skills!

In this activity, students will use translations, rotations, and reflections to answer questions. Rotational and line symmetry is included. One question asks about a translation vector, but an additional option is included with different notation.

Stations mazes are great because they get students up and moving around the room. They also encourage students to check their work carefully since an incorrect answer will eventually send them back to a problem they have already solved. Successfully completing the maze requires students to slow down and check their work.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Given a rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, or regular polygon, describe the rotations and reflections that carry it onto itself.
Develop definitions of rotations, reflections, and translations in terms of angles, circles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, and line segments.
Given a geometric figure and a rotation, reflection, or translation, draw the transformed figure using, e.g., graph paper, tracing paper, or geometry software. Specify a sequence of transformations that will carry a given figure onto another.
