What educators are saying

This was a fun activity after students finished reading Romeo and Juliet. We spent a day talking about allusions before students watched Gnomeo and Juliet.
Even though my students would love to watch a movie just to watch it, that won't fly. This kept them engaged. There were a few parts we had to rewind to since they missed it and the moment went by quickly, but good overall.

Description

This download is for a front & back allusion handout that corresponds, in order, with the movie "Gnomeo and Juliet". It is formatted as a ready-to-print Microsoft Word document, but only needs 1-2 tweaks if converted to a Google Doc.

I show the movie in my classroom in the days leading up to spring break, or, in the days after their English state tests as a more laid back and fun enrichment activity for the play. The majority of the responses are fill-in-the-blank and are easily answered by simply watching the film. This handout does allude to characters and events within the original Shakespeare play, "Romeo and Juliet"; so, it is meant for students that have previously read the play and are now watching the movie. An answer key for teacher use is included.
