Description

This resource will allow you to teach a grammar lesson a week in an easy to understand format that will once and for all help students understand tough concepts. This book was born out of two problems that we saw in our own classrooms. 1. Grammar must build, and 2. Most students do not like learning it.

With this curriculum, grammar lessons will be presented in small, easy portions so that students do not become overwhelmed. We start with the basics, assuming that they know nothing – not even the eight parts of speech. The lessons, which include helpful tips and tricks to help students, build each week so that students have the background knowledge needed to move forward. Plus, now each unit is complete with links to activities in Google Slides format so that you can easily send out the activities in Google Classroom.

Each week, you will have the following resources to teach the lesson:

• A teaching page – This is a handout that can be given to your students. It breaks down the lesson in easy to understand terms and provides examples and sometimes non-examples. In addition to the printable pages, these are Google Ready too!

• A foldable or cutout – These can be used in interactive notebooks or simply as interactive activities. It is just a way to have your students involved so that if they do have that “glazed over” look while you are explaining the lesson, they must wake up and take part in the lesson. Most of these are only for the printable version of this resource.

• At least one practice page – Some lessons include more than one practice. This page can be assigned as classwork or homework, but its purpose is to make sure students have understood the lesson. You can supplement your own handouts or worksheets for more practice throughout the week. In addition to the printable practice pages, links to Google versions are included!

• A quiz – A quiz is included for each lesson. Some of the units have Google Forms versions!

Games are also included to accompany many of the lessons! The games are in printable format.

We recommend introducing the lesson on Monday, working with the lesson through practice Tuesday-Thursday, and giving the quiz on Friday. The Google versions could be used for distance learning, if needed.

Monday –Introduce the lesson using the teaching page

Tuesday – Complete the interactive activity

Wednesday- Practice using the practice page and perhaps having students write sentences

Thursday – Review and supplement with an additional worksheet if needed

Friday – Give the provided quiz

Everything is ready for you to print and teach!

Keep in mind that this book was written for middle school students, not for English majors in college. There are some concepts that are left out on purpose, and the lessons are geared to stay as simple as possible. Middle school kids do not have to know every single grammar rule that is out there. The lessons in this book were written to help students learn in an easy, small portion format. It’s grammar that they can handle!

There are 34 weeks’ worth of lessons. That means you can begin in week two and teach the lessons up until the last week of school! If you would like to skip around or pick and choose lessons, you could do that too! Below is a list of each lesson included in the book:
