Growth and Changes in Animals, Modified Curriculum, 2022 Ontario Science

Differentiated instruction can be challenging. Programming and teaching students with diverse abilities is not easy. Students with exceptionalities often require an accommodated and modified curriculum tailored to their strengths and needs. This curriculum-informed science resource aims to help make differentiated planning a breeze!

The resource is aligned with the 2022 Ontario Science Curriculum for Grade 2.

As a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist, I strive to create a strong teacher-SLP partnership to empower struggling learners, including those with language impairments, learning disabilities, Autism, and cognitive delays. The resources can also be suitable for ELL (English Language Learners) students.

This is what is included:

- Good-to-Know pages with significantly simplified curriculum content

- Extensive use of visuals (clipart) on all pages to support understanding and information

recall

- Let’s Practice pages with follow-up activities to review concepts and reinforce learning

- Use of visual aids along with written task instructions to facilitate independent student work

- Engaging activities suitable for students who require an accommodated and modified curriculum

- Practice tasks include cut-and-paste activities, matching worksheets, build-a-scene tasks, etc.

- No writing demands (no written answers required) to accommodate students with limited literacy abilities

This resource includes:

- 83-page Growth and Changes in Animals workbook (a mix of colour pages and B&W pages)

This resource reflects my speech and language background as well as my extensive experience (over 20 years!) as a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist.

This resource also represents my humble contribution to the amazing work teachers do to support all students, including those with special needs. I am confident that this resource will make differentiated teaching a more manageable undertaking for primary educators.
