What educators are saying

I cannot wait to use this more! This can be used in small group and whole group. This include so many prompts to help engage students in writing or answering in discussion.
I have been looking for a fun and engaging way to get my high level readers more actively engaged during small group time. The questions and topics are spot-on with what we are focusing on. I love that they are so easily organized and I can quickly get to what I need for the day.

Description

This guided reading toolkit is the ultimate resource for your guided reading groups. It works with ANY fictional text so you can use it all year round. Plus, there is a nonfiction task box included too for when your students are reading nonfiction texts. This toolkit will help to develop your students’ reading comprehension skills and will also allow them to practice and refine their reading comprehension strategies which is essential in ensuring they become capable and skilled readers.

These task boxes require no prep, no photocopying and no worksheets so they will save you a bunch of time when selecting and preparing guided reading activities. They cover various reading areas, skills and strategies which ensures that your students are being given a variety of diverse opportunities to develop their repertoire of reading skills.

How to use: To use the toolkit, simply choose the area you want your students to focus on (for example, character work, author work, story structure, making predictions, inferring etc) and provide them with the matching task box. Each task box is filled with a variety of purposeful and engaging activities that your students can complete directly in their books. I recommend providing students with a choice of which task card they wish to complete from the box as it can be super empowering for them. The great thing about these task boxes is that you can easily shift what you want each group to focus on by simply switching up the task boxes.

Task boxes are included for:

★ Character Work

★ Setting

★ Story Structure

★ Author Work

★ Vocabulary

★ Character Traits

★ Before Reading

★ Nonfiction Texts

★ Higher Order Thinking

★ Making Predications

★ Inferring

★ Summarizing

★ Determining Importance

★ Visualizing

★ Synthesizing

★ Asking Questions

★ Nouns, Adjectives and Verbs

★ Adverbs and other Parts of Speech

Options are included for both USA and AUS spelling. A black and white version is included too.
