Halloween Brand Mascot Pumpkin Decorating Contest and Display

Trick-or-treat! Get your students into the Halloween spirit with this brand mascot, pumpkin decorating contest and student-created holiday display. In this activity students will work in a group to decorate a pumpkin as a brand mascot. A list of examples has been included. You can assign brand mascots, have students sign up, or have students select their own without the list. A printable pumpkin has been provided, but this activity can be customized based on the supplies available. For example, students could decorate real pumpkins or create their pumpkins on poster board or card stock. You may also want to provide additional supplies such as construction paper, markers, crayons, colored pencils, yarn, fabric, pipe cleaners, paint, etc.

After a brand mascot has been assigned/selected have students complete the Company Research Graphic. Give students time to decorate their pumpkin. Next, hold a gallery walk or allow students to present about the company. Classmates will complete the Company Info Recording Form as others present or as they move throughout the classroom to view the decorated pumpkins and Company Research Graphic. Finally, have students vote for their favorite design by using the Brand Mascot Pumpkin Decorating Contest Form. Optionally, you may provide extra credit or a prize to the winners.

Now, it's time to create your display. Select and print one of the “Hey there, pumpkin” headings included in this file on brightly colored paper. Select the heading size based on the area you’d like to decorate. This could be a door, bulletin board, whiteboard, wall, or cabinet. Cut out each letter and assemble to say “Hey there, pumpkin”. If the decorated pumpkins are created in a paper format, adhere them to wall with the heading.

This activity is versatile and can be used within any business curriculum. A basic grading rubric is provided based on 40 points. The preview shows the font used for the heading and the student materials. The student worksheets can be completed digitally or after being printed; however, no digital option is provided for students to decorate a pumpkin. If you'd like students to complete the activity remotely, they would need to take a picture of their design to submit.
