History of Writing 3-Part Cards

This 3-part card set (picture, label, paragraph) supports The Story (or History) of Writing.

Included are:
12 pictures illustrating the development of writing from cave art to the 15th century;
12 corresponding labels;
12 corresponding "stories" or explanatory paragraphs, written for the elementary child.

An excellent extension to this card set is to place the pictures and stories along a time line. See my Printable Time Line, consisting of date cards that can be used for this lesson or any other purpose.

The Story of Writing is intended to serve as a launching point for further exploration. This colorful card set can serve as a brief introduction to cave art, Mesopotamia, the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, the Indus Valley Civilization, China, and the Mayas and Aztecs. You might follow up this activity with a unit on any or all.

Print on card stock, laminate, and use a paper cutter to separate the individual pictures, labels, and paragraphs.
