Description

The Italian Renaissance Reading Comprehension Challenge is a winning combination of reading passages and challenges that involve students going back to the text multiple times to find text evidence. humanism, patrons, Florence, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Dante, Macchiavelli, Brunelleschi, and more. They will use that text evidence to find answers to four challenges. At the end, a secret code will be revealed! They will learn about

To add interest, students are given a mission. This increases engagement and interest in the activity.

This secret code challenge works like this…

  1. Read the mission statement to the kids.
  2. Kids will read the passage about the Italian Renaissance.
  3. Students must complete four challenges to create the secret code.
  4. LET THE FUN BEGIN! The order of completion does not matter. Kids can start with any challenge, but they still must use the text to find the answers!

There is lots of flexibility for how you can use this in your classroom! It's a great introduction to a unit, a unit review, for early finishers, or it can be your main text for learning about the Italian Renaissance! The passage contains information about Florence, humanism, perspective, Brunelleschi, Dante, da Vinci, and more! Use the three extension activities to deepen learning and make students go back to the text again and again!

***NOTE: The text used for this activity is similar to the Question Trail and Scavenger Hunt on the same topic, but the activities are different!***
