Description

Kodaly for Older Beginners is great for teachers who have just started their Levels training or who have moved to a new school where the Kodaly method has not been used and want ways to teach those early concepts to their upper elementary music classes or middle school music classes (grades 3-7) with age appropriate songs.

This zip file includes:

Ideas for:
-Where to start
-Developing the singing voice
-Steady Beat
-Rhythm
-Melody
-Six age appropriate songs that are great for teaching the basics and ideas for teaching each.

26 Slides that I use with my older beginners for the song, "That's a Mighty Pretty Motion" to prepare, present and practice sol.
- King of the Mountain for Older Beginners - ta, titi and ta rest. Older students will love this competitive game for practicing rhythm reading. Includes 30 pages to make game cards and instructions for how to play the game.
- I Have/ Who Has Level 1 Game - ta, titi, z
- Steal the Bacon - ta and titi
- this is a fun game to use in the practice stage of ta and titi.

This is NOT an all-encompassing resource for teaching older beginners, just a few ideas, songs, games, and activities that have worked and been well-liked by my 3rd-5th graders while learning the "basics"!

Are you looking for more resources for teaching older beginners in upper elementary/middle school? Check out these full lessons plans with powerpoints for each lesson in my Kodaly Lesson Plans and PowerPoints for Older Beginners set. None of these two sets overlap.
