What educators are saying

This was a lot of fun! I used it in my Lyrics as Literature class as a fun Valentine's Day activity. I used the slideshow option but appreciate the flexibility of including the bulletin board too! Thank you!
This made for an engaging and interactive school library display this month. The students loved guessing and checking if they were right. We even hung the cards up in the shape of a heart for added love flair. Thank you for a great resource!

Description

Which is it: a love song or a poem? Perfect for Valentine's Day or ANYTIME! Your students will have so much fun trying to decide whether the quote is from a poem or lyrics from a love song! You can use the interactive bulletin board display OR the student handout and presentation as an anticipatory set to ignite excitement and appreciation for poetry.

The zipped bundle includes a 30-page PDF for the interactive bulletin board (30 quote cards + two heading pages), a 2-page PDF student handout (30-question "quiz"), a 2-page teacher answer key, and a 94-slide presentation (updated to include an editable PowerPoint presentation as well as a PDF). The presentation and the interactive bulletin board both include the answers with the titles and artists. I have also included a paper-saver option for the bulletin board where you can print two-sided with two cards on one page.

Love songs by the following artists: Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Ellie Goulding, Niall Horan, Khalid, John Legend, Lizzo, Maroon 5, Jason Mraz, Dolly Parton, Rihanna, Sam Smith, and Lee Ann Womack.

Poets featured: Anne Bradstreet, Robert Burns, George Gordon Lord Byron, John Donne, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Joshua Henry Jones Jr., John Keats, Claude McCay, Edgar Allan Poe, William Shakespeare, Sara Teasdale, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Oscar Wilde, and William Wordsworth.

NONE of the quotes included are featured in any other pack.

It's a great way for your students to have a POSITIVE attitude about poetry and English class, in general. It also helps them see that the lines of poems are very much like song lyrics, which helps students to understand the meaning.

Please be patient while downloading as it is a very large zipped folder. If you have trouble unzipping it, re-download and wait several minutes before unzipping.
