What educators are saying

I love this resource. The students were engaged and it was very easy to print and use. Thank you so much!
This is a very thorough resource to use for language. It has helped me dive more into syntax during my sessions.

    Description

Build-a-Sentence grammar worksheets will build your student's confidence and help you provide scaffolded language therapy support for teaching sentence structure, vocabulary, wh-questions, and verbs!

Ever have a student who struggled with grasping the syntax and sentence formulation in your language therapy session week after week?

You feel like your grammar intervention isn't effective and your student is getting discouraged with your language activities.

You're frustrated because you have been following all the evidence-based practices of conversational recasting, increasing drill opportunities, and explicitly teaching syntax, morphology, and parts of speech.

Debra D. said, "My students felt successful using this resource! The visuals helped them to understand the sentence structures, so we were able to reduce the need for the prompts, which allowed them to write correct sentences independently."

But, the student is still not "getting it."

And, you KNOW your student is frustrated with how therapy is going too. You can see it on their face every session when they fumble through each stimulus item. They are becoming discouraged that they just can't seem to remember all the grammar rules and language you have been teaching them.

This No Prep Build a Sentence Grammar Worksheets Resource is designed to teach your student's sentence structure in a visual, easy-to-scaffold way so that you can increase their confidence with language and writing sentences!

You are getting two sets of grammar worksheets that have the same formats but come to have different photos and sentences.

Gone are the sessions filled with reluctance to try something hard! Your students will begin to understand the components of building a complete sentence without the fear of failing. Pretty soon, you will start seeing your students taking risks with writing sentences as you work through these worksheets.

Annie B. said, "It can be so tricky to target grammar with my caseload... students become unmotivated and/or confused. This resource was great and worked seamlessly to target grammar in my language groups."

How the Building Sentences Worksheets work:

This grammar resource focuses more on the elements of what makes a complete sentence using who, what, where, and when rather than building sentences focusing on verb tense and grammatical structures.

By breaking down a sentence by the wh-questions, it allows students to build the content of the sentence without stressing over the grammar markers.

➔As your students build a sentence about the real photo, you can talk about the grammar rules within the context of that photo. In fact, you can also work on sentence comprehension as well! After you create a sentence, you can ask your students who, what, where, and when questions.

You will also be able to use the photos to work on background knowledge and make inferences about the pictures.

There are 4 versions of this resource, two in color and two in black and white. One set has the sentence structures formatted with who, what, where, and when and the other version is formatted with when, who, what, and where.

As the clinician or educator, you will pick which version would be best understood by your students. Start with level A or the pictures with cut-out sentences to show your students how to build a sentence.

When you begin to see your student's confidence and skills improving with understanding the components of a complete sentence, move to Level B and eventually Level C with building sentences.

➔You will not only be working on language and grammar skills but also incorporating writing. This format of having answer choices has helped students focus on the content and not worry about making spelling errors.

As you progress through Level A and Level B, you will find that students begin to take risks with their spelling at Level C.

The Grammar Worksheet BUNDLE has two sets of similar activities but with different real photos, so you can continue to use these throughout the school year.

Here is an example of the types of activities included:

Remember, you will have the exact same worksheets in formats for "who, what, where, when" and "when, who, what, where."

    Technical Questions About The Resource

When you purchase this resource, it will come in a WinZip file. You will need to have unzipping software to access all the PDFs in the resource, so it is best to unzip this file on your laptop or desktop computer.

For the best printing options, you will want to view the PDFs in Adobe Acrobat Reader. When you try to print in "preview" mode (that's when you have downloaded it and are viewing it in an internet browser) there could be black boxes around the photos. You don't want that, so it's best to view the PDF directly from your file on your computer.

You can use these PDFs digitally for teletherapy by pulling them up on the Kami Chrome Extension and can write and draw on the worksheet. You will also be able to type and use moveable images on the Google Slide versions for teletherapy or as a distance learning activity.
