- Directions for properly labeling maps are broken down into four steps including handwriting, orientation, and when to use arrows versus using a legend.
- A page on properly coloring maps correctly introduces six rules including only using blue for water, not allowing the same color to touch, etc.
- Cardinal and intermediate directions are explained with words and diagrams, as well as a mnemonic device.
- Ratio and linear scale are explained with words and diagrams and four examples to practice are provided.
- A beginner's worksheet on directions called "Here's Looking at Directions" allows students to practice naming directions and locating places based on directional cues.
- A basic scale worksheet entitled "A Basic Look at Scale" gets students to practice measuring and determining distances using the posted scale and easily marked locations.
