Description
A self-directed project based learning unit for high school students, “A Mentored Service Learning Project” is designed as a marking-period long educational experience. This project tasks students with finding and working with a mentor to design and complete a service project (outside of class), while practicing research skills, formal essay writing, and public speaking (during class). Broken down into 6 engaging and scaffolded tasks (tied to 11 Common Core ELA standards), students get to engage their own interests in the service of others while simultaneously demonstrating their mastery of your English curriculum.
Designed to engage learners for an entire 9-week marking period, this product includes:
- A presentation that introduces all 6 project tasks to your students and assists with the brainstorming of potential projects (with example photos)
- "The Basics of MLA Style" presentation
