Description
Model United Nations ICJ simulation on Syria: Sixty-seven teachers have bought this product and the reviews are flattering. It was updated August 8, 2019 with the addition of a power point on the ICJ. Are you interested in doing an International Court of Justice (ICJ) simulation? Using this product, the students act as ICJ judges in assessing whether the Syrian government is guilty of genocide. The 8 sided document includes the following:
1) The International Court of Justice (ICJ)
2) PROCEDURE FOR THE ICJ SIMULATION IN A USA VS SYRIA CASE
3) GENOCIDE CONVENTION (1948): the first 9 articles
4) Genocide vs Crimes Against Humanity vs War Crimes:
5) BACKGROUND TO THE GENOCIDE CONVENTION, AND US OPPOSITION
2OTH CENTURY GENOCIDES
6) THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT (ICC)
7) QUESTIONS FOR THE ICJ TO CONSIDER
This product does not include information on Syria. I'd recommend the following:
1) either the students can do their own research regarding Syria under Bashar al-Assad
2) or, you can access my TpT power point on Syria:
https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Syria-1857333
The power point on Syria gives enough information so that the Assad supporters and the Assad critics would, both, be able to launch significant arguments in their defense.
Note: I also include a file on the Darfur Genocide. You could theoretically do a US vs Sudan ICJ case in similar fashion.
My International Relations students organized annual Model United Nations conferences for 19 years. For a period of time, we were the largest one-day, high school MUN conference in the northeast. (approx 400 students from 28 schools) One of the most popular committees was always the International Court of Justice.
