Benefits of Incorporating Movement Breaks:

  • Enhanced Focus: Short movement breaks (provide brain breaks) have been proven to boost attention and concentration, allowing students to return to their tasks with renewed focus and enthusiasm.

  • Improved Classroom Management: By offering students the autonomy to take movement breaks when needed, you promote a positive classroom atmosphere where students can regulate their energy levels without disrupting the learning environment.

  • Inclusive Approach: This kit ensures that all students, regardless of their needs or abilities, have equal access to the benefits of movement breaks. Students with ADHD or those who require more movement can engage without feeling singled out.

  • Physical Well-being: Regular movement breaks contribute to better physical health, promoting active habits that can lead to a more balanced lifestyle.

  • Stress Reduction: Movement breaks help reduce stress and anxiety, creating a more relaxed and comfortable learning environment for both students and teachers.

  • Social Interaction: Movement breaks encourage social interaction and teamwork, fostering a sense of community among students.

  • Brain Function: Physical activity stimulates brain function, leading to improved cognitive performance and creativity.

Product Includes:

  • Colorful Bulletin Board Letters: "Let's Get Moving!"

These eye-catching letters capture your students' attention.

  • 26 Large Square Animal Movements Posters (8.5 inches) Engage your students with a wide variety of fun animal movements. From hopping hippos to fluttering dragonflies, these large images of actual children doing the movement are perfect for students to imitate. The bulletin board allows for differentiation without additional teacher time.

  • Detailed Activity Cards: Each movement comes with a corresponding activity card that provides clear instructions and descriptions of the animal movement. These cards are helpful for teachers when introducing the new movements to the class.

  • Recording Chart (Optional): This is included to help with differentiation for students a teacher feels may benefit from slowing down during the movement break and recording which movements they completed. It also allows teachers to pick given movements for particular students ahead of time.

How to Use:

  • Set Up: Create an inviting bulletin board display by arranging the colorful letters that spell "Let's Get Moving!" Add the large square animal movements and corresponding activity cards. You can start with a few that you have introduced and then add more as the year goes on OR simply put up all the animals and introduce them systematically. Depending on the age and learning profile of your students, you may wish to limit the number of movements you display. You can also put circle dot stickers on some if want to have certain student focus on certain movements (e.g., the green dot movements).

  • Introduction: Introduce the movement break concept to your students by explaining the benefits and encouraging them to utilize the board when they feel the need to move. You can choose times when the movement break is not open (e.g., when a teacher is explaining a project).

  • Independence: Teach students how to use the movement space independently. Explain how many students are allowed in the space at a time. You may want to add large foam dice or a visual timer as a cue for students to know how many reps or how long to do a given activity. It is helpful to model and practice this as an entire class.

  • Incorporate into Routine: Incorporate movement breaks seamlessly into your daily routine, ensuring students have ample opportunities to engage in physical activity throughout the school day. Some students will know that they always take a movement break at a certain time in the day, e.g., when the 5-minute timer warning goes off before meeting.

Time to channel your inner animal! Create a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment with our "Let's Get Moving!" Bulletin Board Kit. Empower your students to take charge of their learning and well-being, one movement break at a time.
