Description
NEWSELA is a great, online resource because it allows a student to choose his/her own Lexile level to read level-appropriate articles. This activity has 12 templates (Newsela worksheets or Newsela graphic organizers) to choose from and is aligned with Common Core Literacy and Writing standards for ELA, history, and science (NGSS). Two brand new Doodle Notes templates were added for the new school year!!!
In addition to receiving printable copies provided in PDF, this lesson bundle was recently converted to GOOGLE 1:1 compatible templates for a completely GOOGLE Classroom ready lesson! Textboxes are already made in a colorful Google Slides Interactive Notebook format. As always, the text is bold in dark blue for easy, eye-catching online grading!
Most of the printable templates have 2 options, with or without stem sentences for varying levels in your classroom! It can be used for current event articles, science articles, and social science topic articles. Students can access NEWSELA at home, so this makes for an easy reading assignment with age-appropriate, reading-level-appropriate current articles.
While there are 12 choices with varying expectations, most of the templates include:
⭐An "identify the main idea" sentence section/question
⭐A supporting sentence section. Students cite 2-3 sentences that are evidence supporting the main idea.
⭐An Article summary section
⭐A Conclusion section
⭐Also, at the end of the article analysis template there is a bonus fun tech connection that asks students to create a hashtag (#) summary. It puts a modern, creative twist on a simple summary analysis. Not sure what a hashtag is? Don't worry, there is an explanation, and chances are your students already know. My students love this and it's an easy sharable topic in class!
This product can be used for a remote or distance learning environment. It suits the needs of an online classroom that fits perfectly with a Google Classroom platform. This is a virtual learning experience that teachers can use to guide students through the Newsela Articles.
