This packet is written in general terms for young children in grades Kindergarten, first, and early second grade. As children grow and mature, they will be able to handle more information. I have tried to write a unit that is both respectful to the Native American culture and simple enough for a 5-8 year old child to understand.
I feel that it is important for young children to learn about the great culture of Native Americans. It is also important for young children to understand that not ALL Native Americans lived (and live) in the same way. Not ALL Native Americans lived in a tipi and hunted buffalo.
