Description
Student choice makes this fun and engaging as students learn the problem-solving process and project management.
This comprehensive resource will have your students collaborating in groups on everything from brainstorming to the identification of a problem to the creation of a solution to an implementation plan . Teams will formally present to their class enhancing communication skills. Student-centered and rewarding for your classes.
You can leave this wide open or choose to have students identify a school-based problem (makes it more 'real' for the students) that they believe affects the quality of life for the school community.
This project requires use of technology and access to the internet for students. This is a project that will take approximately 2+ weeks to complete including the student presentations.
Everything you need is in the zip folder for this resource. Follow the Lesson Guide and teacher slide notes as it will take you through the entire project from intro of content to project to presentations to reflection. Various mini lessons scheduled throughout to support student learning as they collaborate in groups on a long-term project.
Teachers – before you begin, review the separate teacher slide presentation on how to move class through a long-term project with ease.
The students get really invested in this assignment because they are tackling problems that affect them daily. (I have had administrators view the student presentations live and then later act on the recommendations!)
Student groups identify a problem, create a solution, and compose a feasible implementation plan. All culminating in a digital presentation platform of your choosing.
After the presentations, engage your students in a post-mortem or debriefing! This really cements the learning as it is an active reflection and facilitates a major function of project management. I have included a separate presentation and a lesson guide for the post-project debriefing.
The resource Zip Folder provides a clear outline to help you guide students through the process:
- Teacher ONLY presentation to HELP YOU learn how to intro the project, break it down, and how to approach it.
- Introduction to project goals
- Video link and activity to introduce the concept of social entrepreneurship and problem-solving so students are clear on expectations (in first lesson plan)
