Paragraph of the Week: Fictional Narrative

The ORIGINAL Paragraph of the Week program on TpT! This daily, scaffolded approach to fictional narrative paragraph writing is perfect to help get your students writing good, solid, detailed FICTIONAL NARRATIVE paragraphs. Students will write one paragraph weekly, focusing on the organization and format of the paragraph itself.

There are 12 weeks worth of writing prompts in this 77+ page file. The first 4 weeks are PICTURE prompts, where the students are given a picture and have to construct a fictional story around that. The second 4 weeks are ORGANIZER prompts, where the students are given a plot diagram that is partially filled in, and they must create a story from that. The final 4 weeks are PROMPTS only. The students use the same scaffolding as the previous weeks, but are given a text prompt to write from. All of these prompts also have DIGITAL links to Google Slides and can be assigned digitally as well as on paper!

This program has been designed with state testing in mind. The students will walk away from this 12 weeks understanding how to construct a basic NARRATIVE story with a beginning, middle, and end that includes a problem and solution. The students will move away from personal narratives and list writing to actual story writing with this resource.

There are samples of completed paragraphs, a rubric, a revising checklist, and even final draft paper for you to use. There are also blank templates for you to create your own writing prompts to better suit the needs of your students.

There are now also DIGITAL versions of all prompts that can be assigned in Google Classroom! Just copy the links into your own drive and share with your students so that you can go PAPERLESS!

This is designed as homework OR you can also use it as classwork in a center or writing warm up (which is how I personally use it in my room.)
