What educators are saying
I included this in our unit workbooks for l'imparfait and le passé composé as a reference to help students remember the differences between the two.
My students love using the flow chart to try and make their decisions between the passé composé and the imparfait. It is available in both French and English to fit their language abilities.
The flow chart is making them less hesitant and more confident in their choices.
Description
This is a flow chart that I made to help my French students decide if they need to use the passé composé or the imparfait when describing a past action. It leads students through the rules in question format such as" is it a one-time action?" or "does it interrupt another action?" Then it provides reminders for the formation of both past tense forms. This really helped my students who were struggling between the two past tense options in French. There is a color and grayscale version.
UPDATE JULY 2021: I added a French version of the same flow chart for advanced/immersion students.
