What educators are saying
Description
Are you looking for an end of year, course, or unit project where students can demonstrate all that they have learned without needing a test? Planning a vacation or trip forces students to work on skills such as planning, budgeting, logistics, market research, marketing, advertising, and consumer skills.
In this project, students will be placed in the role of travel agent or vacation planner. They are creating a vacation package for 10 students in their school to take during their senior year over spring break for 5 days (you can adjust the parameters if desired). The students will need to consider their target market, design a vacation that would be exciting to a group of 10 students, and then research the essential elements needed to produce a vacation package:
- Transportation
- Accommodation
- Food
- Entertainment
The students will produce an itinerary, budget and cost breakdown, and a tri-fold brochure advertising the vacation package to the rest of the school (using Canva or similar design tool).
You can adjust the level of detail required to make the project last a single day to 3 or 4 days. I love the idea of culminating with a student fair where they advertise their vacations to the rest of the students in the school and see which trips are the most popular.
In this resource, you will get:
- Teacher Instructions for preparing students, guiding them through the process, and keeping them on track.
- A student guide packet (pdf and Google Document version available) to structure student thinking and provide each to reach checkpoints.
- A Google Sheet with a project checklist, itinerary tab, budget tab, and space to submit a link to their final brochure.
- Sample grading rubric
- Example brochure to share with students.
