What educators are saying

It's nice to be able to teach a subject then be able to have a reader to assign my little ones to read independently.
My students enjoyed this resource as it was the perfect addition to our space unit. It was easy to use and well made.

Description

Finding nonfiction texts at an appropriate level for kindergarten guided reading groups is a difficult (and often expensive!!) task. With the increased expectation of kindergarteners reading nonfiction texts based on the Common Core Standards, it is crucial that teachers have access to leveled nonfiction books that their students can read (and want to read!!) With that thought in mind, I have created this book (and will be creating many more!!)

This book is written at an approximate level D. Many sight words are used to support early readers as they begin to read nonfiction text. The complete text of the book is included below, so you can see if it will meet the needs of your students.

Page 1: Title Page: The Planets in The Solar System
Page 2: The sun is in the center of the solar system.
All of the planets revolve around the sun.
Page 3: Mercury is the smallest planet.
It is also the planet that is closest to the sun.
Page 4: Venus is the brightest planet.
We can often see Venus in the sky, even during the day!
Page 5: Earth is our planet!
It is the only planet with living things on it.
Page 6: Next is the planet Mars.
It is called the red planet.
It has many craters on it where asteroids have hit it.
Page 7: Jupiter is the biggest planet.
Jupiter has the Great Red Spot, which is a big moving area of storms.
Page 8: Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun.
It has big rings which may be made of ice.
Page 9: The planet Uranus is blue. It has rings, like Saturn.
It is not as big as Saturn.
Page 10: Neptune is blue, just like Uranus.
You have to use a telescope so you can see it in our sky.

This book includes the same text on both the top and bottom of each sheet of paper to make copying, sorting, stapling, and cutting easy to create a class set of little books!!

In addition to the early reader little book, there are also pocket chart cards to illustrate the names of the planets from the book.

**I am currently working on many different nonfiction leveled readers appropriate for the kindergarten. I will have many topics that are of interest to kindergarten students, and will have books written at approximate levels C-D. If you are interested in these books, please follow my store to receive notifications of new books!!**

Thanks for looking and happy teaching!!!
