There are many simple short decodable stories out there in the marketplace and online.  I created these with more of a challenge in mind.  They include high-frequency words, decodable multi-syllable words, and words with consonant blends and digraphs.   Inside the resource, I provide suggestions for free sources for easier decodable texts for students that may need them.

These R controlled decodable readers are crafted to provide slightly more advanced decoding practice for readers still developing orthographic mapping and fluency.   The plans for the decodable passages include activities for phoneme-grapheme word work, word dictation, word reading, and sentence reading.   This allows students to build upon their knowledge of the r-controlled vowel sounds and spelling patterns.
