What educators are saying

This is awesome! It was quick and done and the students do not get bored! Thank you so very much for creating this!
This is an incredible resource, and it looks amazing in my classroom! I printed it myself and it was pretty easy to cut out and align. Thank you!

Description

This is an interactive reading bulletin board! Choose a class reading goal of 100 books, 500 books or 1,000 books and then choose a mandala that has that number of spaces. As students finish a book, they color in a space on the class mandala. Each mandala is hand drawn and has "We Love Reading" within the design. This is perfect for goal setting and class team work! While this is designed to be printed large enough for a bulletin board, I have also included each mandala as an 8 1/2 x 11 inch pdf for smaller printing. This kit includes mandalas, titles, hashtag phrases and an activity for students to recommend a favorite book and add it to the bulletin board. For specifics on what is included, scroll down to "This Product Contains the Following".

Ideas for use:

1. Traditional Use, Year-long Class Challenge: Print a large mandala and add it your bulletin board. Add the title and hashtags. Print out blank copies of the student book recommendations and put them into a pocket folder on the bulletin board. Throughout the year students read a book, check in with you, and then color in a space on the mandala starting from the inside and working to the outside. My favorite part is that I can leave the bulletin board up all year long! This "Year-long Challenge" is also fun to start in January as you talk about New Year Resolutions.

2. Month-long Challenge: The smaller mandalas are perfect for shorter goals (100 books or 500 books). I particularly like a month long challenge during the month of March as our school celebrates Read Across America.

3. Individual Student Challenge: Use the 8 1/2 x 11 pdf version to print a mandala and put it as a first page in a student's reading log. This can be their own personal goal for the year (100 books makes a great year-long goal).

4. Grade-level Challenge: Put the bulletin board up in the hallway and work towards a goal as a grade level. If you decide to have each class completing their own mandala challenge (perhaps competing between grades), multiple license are needed for each teacher.

5. School-wide Challenge: Put the bulletin board up in the hallway and work towards a goal as a whole school. One mandala = one license. If multiple teachers are printing their own mandala for a school wide challenge (class against class), a license is needed for each teacher.

This Product Contains the Following:

1. Hashtag signs: 12

2. Two Titles: "We Love to Read" and "Watch Us Reach Our Goal of 100 / 500 / 1000 Books" Each title comes in two fonts. The titles are black letters each inside a black square that look great when printed on colored paper (see preview).

3. One "Make a Recommendation" Sign. Print it on colored paper and staple the sides and bottom to the bulletin board to make a pocket folder for blank recommendation pages. Two fonts included.

4. Student Recommendation Activity: Two pages that need to be printed front to back and folded in half to make a mini book. Front: Title, Author, Illustration of the Cover, Recommended By. Inside Rate the Book Using Stars, Writing Prompt "You Should Read This Book Because". Staple these to the bulletin board throughout the year.

5. Mandalas: All mandalas come in high resolution jpg and pdf as well as a small pdf sized to 8 1/2 x 11 inch for classroom printing. Mandalas include the following:

*100 Book Goal Mandala: 2 versions, the first segmented into quarters with the goal of 25 above each quarter and the second version without the numerical goal. Both versions come in color and black and white.

*500 Book Goal Mandala: 2 versions, the first segmented into quarters with the goal of 125 above each quarter and the second version without the numerical goal. Both versions come in color and black and white.

*1000 Book Goal Mandala: 2 versions, the first segmented into quarters with the goal of 250 above each quarter and the second version without the numerical goal. Both versions come in color and black and white.

Printing a Large Mandala:

A large mandala needs to be printed on a large printer. Most districts do not have these printers and, therefore, you will need to have it printed professionally at a store like Office Depot or Staples. To print it professionally, choose to print it as a poster (I don't recommend glossy because it can be difficult to color in; I recommend matte). I have included high resolution jpg and pdf files that can create mandalas up to 40"x40".
