    Description

This Romeo and Juliet Movie Guide bundle includes all three of my movie guides for Shakespeare's classic love story. Have your pick throughout the years to spice up your instruction or choose to show your students one or all three as they each shine a different light on the most famous tragic love story of all time!

A quick breakdown of each version:

    1968 Version (Director: Franco Zeffirelli)
This film sticks closely to Shakespeare's original text and is set in a medieval Verona, Italy. The actors are young and the settings are lush and authentic. This version would help high school students understand the original setting and time period of the play. The film focuses a lot on the emotions and romantic aspect of the story.

    1996 Version (Director: Baz Luhrmann)
Titled "Romeo + Juliet," this version takes place in a modern, fictional "Verona Beach." The film keeps the original Shakespearean dialogue but uses contemporary settings and costumes (think Hawaiian shirts and guns instead of swords). This adaptation makes the story feel fresh and current for high school students, showing that the themes of love and conflict are timeless.

    2013 Version (Director: Carlo Carlei)
This movie also tries to be more traditional, like the 1968 version, but it has a more updated look and feel. It's set in a stylized version of the original Verona and incorporates some modern elements. This blend can help high school students understand the story while still feeling it's relevant to their own lives. The film also puts a lot of emphasis on the family feud aspect, showcasing the destructive impact of the families' hatred on their love.
