Sensory poems are a blast! My students just finished a "Thanksgiving Sensory Poem." The final products were incredible. I want to do more sensory poetry! Therefore, I created a template and rubric that would fit ANY subject.
This download includes a sensory poem template for any subject and a rubric for easy assessment.
This is perfect for whole teach or a writing station. At our writing station, I handed out sensory language (found on the Internet) to help guide students. This handout included words for each of the 5 senses. Example: TASTE (delicious, scrumptious, tasty, salty, etc.) SMELL (appetizing, aroma, pungent, etc.)
Have children write "sloppy copies" on notebook paper or the provided template. Afterward, they can take this creative writing to the FINAL DRAFTING stage by checking for descriptive words, sensory language, checking spelling, capitalization, usage, punctuation, and spelling. Finally, let students illustrate and color their masterpiece!
